Plan Types

Original Medicare

Original Medicare is the term used to describe those who use Pt. A and Pt. B as their primary insurance. Together Pt. A & B comprise original Medicare. Original Medicare covers an individual’s hospital and medical insurance.

The cost plan is a Medicare related product that works in conjunction with original Medicare. Cost plans can include Drug coverage for additional premium as well as value added benefits such as dental, OTC benefits, eyewear benefit, etc…

Advantage Plans are privatized Medicare plans which carriers take over the original Medicare (Pt. A & B). Advantage Plans include drug coverage for no extra premium as well as many of the same value-added benefits of cost plans. Advantage Plans may institute a network for their members.

Medicare Supplement plans are Medicare related products that also work with Pt. A & B. These plans are strictly medical coverage as they do not include a drug benefit or value-added benefits. They are accepted anywhere in the country that accept Medicare – eliminating networks.

Prescription Drug Plans help seniors receive coverage for their pharmaceutical needs. This includes an out-of-pocket maximum of $2,000 for covered prescription drugs. These can be used with Cost plans, Medicare Supplements, or Original Medicare.

When can I sign up or change my Medicare insurance?

AEP – Annual Election Period

The Annual Election Period takes place every year from October 15th to December 7th. During this time Medicare insureds are allowed to review and make changes to their current coverages for the start of the next year on January 1st.

Every Medicare-aged individual’s Initial Election Period begins 3 months prior to the month they turn 65, continues through the month they turn 65, and runs through 3 months after the month they turn 65. Giving people a 7 month period to decide on their plans and enroll without receiving a late enrollment penalty

Special Election Periods are times when individuals are allowed to enroll in a different plan due to a life event. These life events can include moving out of a plan service area, a change in Medicaid eligibility, loss of coverage, etc…

What do I need for a Medicare Appointment with Reliable?

Are you ready to start your Medicare plan search? Here are a few things you need before meeting with an agent!

Scope of Appointment

The Scope of Appointment is a rule handed down to us by the government requiring a Scope of Appointment be signed 48 hours prior to any meeting related to Medicare products. This rule is in place meant to protect consumers, if you do not have a signed SOA within the last 365 days, please contact our benefits department!

For all Medicare enrollments, agents will need your Medicare number and effective dates off this card. Please bring this with you!

All Medicare-related products, OTHER THAN PT. D, require consumers to already be enrolled in Pt. A and Pt. B before signing up for any sort of Cost Plan, Advantage Plan, or Supplement.
